The Sustainability Management Research Center of National Chengchi University launched the First Evaluation of Climate-related Financial Disclosure (TCFD) Reports of Domestic Banks and Insurance Companies in August 2023, and held the first awards ceremony and symposium recognizing outstanding institutions in 2024.
This year, the Center completed the Second Evaluation, announced the outstanding institutions, and held the awards ceremony on September 5 at the NCCU Public and Business Administration Education Center. A total of 38 domestic banks and 44 insurance companies participated in the evaluation; the insurance sector comprised 21 life insurance companies and 23 non-life insurance companies.
The evaluation categorized institutions into banking, life insurance, and non-life insurance sectors, and recognized the top 25% performers in each category. In addition, an Outstanding Improvement Award was specially presented to encourage institutions that demonstrated significant progress in their TCFD report evaluation results. The Center stated that the purpose of evaluating climate-related financial disclosure reports of banks and insurance companies is to encourage these institutions to proactively identify climate change–related risks and opportunities, and to leverage their investment and financing capabilities to accelerate the decarbonization and net-zero transition of the real economy. The evaluation also aims to encourage top-performing institutions to serve as benchmarks and role models for industry learning.
The evaluation conducted by the Sustainability Management Research Center of National Chengchi University is based on the Recommendations on Climate-related Financial Disclosures released by the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) under the Financial Stability Board (FSB) in June 2017, as well as the TCFD Annex published in October 2021. It also references the Climate Risk Financial Disclosure Guidelines for Domestic Banks and the Climate-related Risk Financial Disclosure Guidelines for the Insurance Industry issued by the Financial Supervisory Commission. The Center collected 2022 TCFD reports publicly disclosed on the websites of banks and insurance companies, and subsequently invited experts, scholars, and Center staff to conduct the evaluation.
